May progress

Posted on June 1, 2016. Filed under: Monthly progress |

One week at the beginning of the month detailing 54458’s tender, two weeks adding bits and pieces to the loco, and I was ready for a change. I switched to scenery: specifically an end-of-layout backscene for view’s looking north.

With a 2’ 7 ½” by 4’ area of 4mm ply to paint, mainly to sky, I had a custom can of blue paint made up at my local B&Q using as the colour reference a sky backscene I’d painted last year at Missenden. In the corresponding view south the bridge and road act as a scenic view blocker, however no such obvious feature is available looking north. Instead I chose to paint the prototype view of trees and hills visible in the distance under the arch of the footbridge directly onto the ply backscene.

The result is a development of the view in last month’s progress post with a taller sky framing the foreground telegraph pole. A black and white version of this view is now a companion piece to the postcard view in “3. Kyle of Sutherland Layout”.

And right at the end of the month I added the final touches to 54458.

After this month’s work, I’m hoping for a train picture or two next month.
