January progress

Posted on February 1, 2016. Filed under: Monthly progress |

I’ve worked on several tenders this past month (see also “Unfinished projects” in “Project Progress”) coming at the end of a long stint of metalworking since taking Kyle of Sutherland to Culrain in September.

Caledonian Tenders 160201       Caledonian roll call

From right to left these are the tenders for 57587 (scratch built in 2002), 54458 (kit built in 2012 with scratch additions) and 54495 (started just before Christmas 2015 using a second Caley Coaches tender kit as the basis of the model with a taller scratch body). It was only after building 54458’s tender I had some concerns over the height: I think the kit was designed for the earlier Dunalastairs II and III, whereas I model in a later period and tenders increased in size over time. The acid test will be how it looks in a mock-up of “The Mails” double-headed by 54458 (with full height tender) and 45473.

After all that metalwork, with only a bit of scenic stuff in between, I feel it’s about time I took a break from soldering and returned to trees. I want to continue building up the number of plug-in tree modules to lend variety to the backgrounds of train pictures, which are long overdue.
