Where and how to plant the trees? The larger specimens will be bedded into balsa blocks, and these are most easily glued down before the ground cover is finished. The trees around Station Cottage are partly intended to disguise the un-prototypical closeness of the cottage to the line.

The foreground trees either side of the road are marked with pegs, tapped into balsa blocks I glued earlier. And just for good measure, I’ve included a small remnant of the weed-choked Loch Sprint. You can’t have a highland layout without water.
