A knock on the door today brought me a GW Models 6” Mini Roller.
I’d ordered this little gem to help make a taper boiler for my next Black 5, 44722 of Inverness shed. I’ve had a little experience with a borrowed roller (not that sort) and enjoyed making 54458’s parallel boiler and smoke box wraparound. And it got me thinking, especially when I came across this 2009 photo, showing rivets produced with my GW Models superb index riveter.
Maybe I should use Albert Hall’s plastic boiler to make the mock-up for a GW Models nickel boiler for 5961?

A cold garage this last month spurred me on to complete the new bracket signal and progress the last two of the six extra coaches planned for Kyle of Sutherland’s return to the exhibition circuit as a finished layout.
These coaches were all started at Missenden Abbey, the two unpainted Comet models at the recent Spring Railway Modellers Weekend. From the left they are: Pullman Restaurant Car (1955 Wick/Thurso), D1807 Open Third (1955 Helmsdale local), D1755 Brake Composite (1960 Dornoch Branch Mixed), D2161 Brake Third (1955 Helmsdale local) and D1704A Brake Composite (1955 Dornoch Branch Mixed).
The sixth coach is a Highland TPO which still only consists of a scratch floor and some etches. However, the four Comet coaches I’ve worked on have provided some much needed coach building experience.
