The next item to improve the view on Kyle of Sutherland will be an LMS bracket signal, replacing the current single tubular post signal. From 1935 or so, the LMS changed from cranks and wire to a rocking or torsion bar to transfer the signal operation from the main post to the doll on bracket signals.
This upside down view of the landing shows the rocking bar between the trimmers. The far crank is operated by wire from the trackside crank, and the near crank operates the wire to the signal arm. Clearances are tight, and the rocking bar just fouls the doll post, which will need a wee nick between the post support plates (only one so far to ease assembly).

At long last I assembled the various scenic and building components on the two scenic boards. After replicating as near as possible prototype photographs of Culrain station by Vallance, Sibley and Young I feel confident that the end is in sight. My idea is to use these photo mock-ups to inform the next stages of modelling.
I’m nevertheless amazed by how much more detail is still needed. I guess it’s one of the hazards of modelling a real location? But how long will it be before I post some pictures?Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
