August progress

From new layout wiring to new coaching stock, this last month has moved Kyle of Sutherland forward. But it’s easy to get bogged down in detail. Take coach brakes, for instance.

Coaches 7 Comet LMS 2 130901       Unnecessary widgets?

In just over a week since coming back from Missenden I’ve very nearly finished building the two LMS coaches. The fly in the ointment was not getting some of the details right first time. You’d think I would be able to read a diagram by now, but I managed to get the sliding bracket in its cradle and the pivoting bracket on the cross truss at the wrong end of the brake coach. The irony is that I never intended to link them up, I just happened to have the parts left over from building the LMS D1720 BCK. There was several weeks scratch building in all the joints, couplings and linkages for D1720. That’s more than two complete coaches’ worth of non-deviant kit assembly.

I’m now running out of (allocated) time, but hope to quickly complete and prime the two coaches ready for painting later at the Autumn Railway Modellers Weekend at Missenden in October. And then it’s back to baseboards.
