June progress

Posted on July 1, 2013. Filed under: Monthly progress |

I was slow to get back into modelling after the Scaleforum exhibition in September 2012. More than four months passed before I set to work on the layout again. But after the recent Exeter Show, I couldn’t wait to get stuck in again. Why the change? The answer is simply that the revised Kyle of Sutherland looks much better. It’s just a question now of doing the work to finish the layout.

This last month I’ve made a number of track corrections and altered the (south) cassette to layout level so that now all my locos and stock go smoothly from cassette through the loop point and back again without trouble. All chairs are fixed, and have base colour applied. And I’ve also altered the vertical alignment of the (north) cassettes and the three scenic tracks.

Testing stock on the south scenic board was easy – the main controls are on that board. Operating on the north scenic board is going to be more difficult. So far I’ve used croc clips on individual sections of track. But what I want is to operate each half of the layout (one scenic board plus cassette table and cassettes) separately – I don’t have space in the garage to set up the whole layout.

Eureka! Coming back from a very enjoyable club get-together on Saturday afternoon, a simple plan came unbidden into my mind. Now why didn’t I think of that before?
